Flexible Gear Couplings

A Gear coupling is a mechanical device basically used to connect two shafts where some non-collinear torque is experienced. The gear coupling and the grid coupling are the most common types of coupling. Flexible Gear Couplings are used for both in medium and large scale industries say for 100 hp, where the usual grid couplings applications used are under 1000 hp. Coupling is also carried out for connecting two different machines of different specifications. Here the most important type is Flexible Gear Coupling . It consists of a forged sleeve which has tooth cuts on the internal surface. The forged sleeves are usually made up of two halves possessing internal gears in both the pieces. There are some circumstances where high tensile strength is expected, and hence the forged sleeve remains a single piece in this situation.
