All About Gear Couplings
Gear couplings are popular form of flexible coupling in mechanical power transmission. Suitability to wide application areas, usability & easiness in installation has made them one of the most preferred types of mechanical power transmission couplings. Basically, they form a mechanical device that has high capacity of transmitting 'torque' between two connected shafts, which are not collinear.
1. Considered as torsionally rigid in performance, their basic design can be divided into two major types:
2. Full Flexible Type Semi Flexible type or Flexible-Rigid connection.
A full flexible type coupling consists of two external gear hubs with finished bore & keyway, mounted on connecting shafts. Teeth of these hubs engage with internal teeth of a common, which forms a spline like joint for power transmission.
A semi-flexible coupling primarily comprises of 2 halves, flexible & rigid. Rigidity on one end does not accommodate parallel displacement of shafts but since also has flexible member; it surely does accommodate angular misalignment. Floating shaft applications primarily employ this type of coupling.
Usually, a gear coupling is supplied & installed in finished bore & keyway conditions with specified dimensions against the requirement of the application.
Torsional rigidity, flexibility to absorb misalignment between 2 shafts, ease in installation & maintenance & most importantly high torque transmission capacity at low vibrations, makes them suitable for a wide range of mechanical power transmission application. Gear teeth of the coupling are crowned in design which provides the scope for absorbing angular misalignment while the backlash between the mating teeth provides scope for adjusting the linear misalignment, which in turn makes the join, vibration free during rotation. As large axial moments are avoided, machines, bearings, seals, and shafts are therefore not subjected to the additional forces, sometimes of considerable magnitude.
Gear couplings find extensive use in majority application areas such as transmission drives, engines, heavy gearboxes, fluid couplings & similar where high torque transmission capacity along with torsional rigidity is required.
We are in the field of manufacturing All Type of Gear Couplings Like Full Gear Couplings, Pin Bush Coupling, Brake Drum Geared Coupling, Nylon Gear Coupling, Only Drum Coupling, Chain & Chain Conveyor, Chain Sprocket, Baring pedestal Spear Gear, Helical Gear, Crane Gearbox, all type of Heavy Machinery Spares.
Anyway, this device is helpful for mechanical power transmission. For more information about this topic refer Sahara Engineers www.gearcouplingsindia.com
